From Diagnosis to Stage 4: A Rapid Progression

In early 2025, at age 34, Thurston was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma after initially dismissing a painful lump in her breast. A second opinion later reclassified her cancer as stage 4 hormone-positive, HER2-negative, with metastasis to her liver. Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, she remains optimistic, viewing stage 4 cancer as a chronic condition that can be managed with the right treatment plan. ​

Fertility Preservation Amid Treatment

Facing potential infertility due to cancer treatments, Thurston and her husband, comedian Jeff Arcuri, pursued in vitro fertilization (IVF) to preserve their chances of having children. They successfully retrieved two embryos before starting treatment. Thurston has expressed hope to carry a pregnancy herself after treatment, though she acknowledges that surrogacy might be their best option. ​
